Gmund - Rooted in Tradition
‘Gmund makes us happy,’ is the mantra of local residents and quickly becomes that of its day visitors and holiday guests. No wonder: on the northern shore of Lake Tegernsee exquisite landscapes, lived tradition and outstanding hospitality come together in a remarkable mix.
On the picturesque meadows and hills surrounding the heart of the town, proud Bavarian farm houses invite their guests to spend an unforgettable family holiday. Here, one may encounter authentic country life in the home of a Bavarian family and enjoy their home-made produce. Children will always remember an excursion to the Wackersberger Hof, where they may safely pet real animals of the sub-Alpine area, such as sheep, pigs and mountain goats. And the large adventure playground on the lakefront provides hours of outdoor fun. The museum of local history, called Gmunder Jagerhaus, puts tradition on show, from granny’s enamel cake tin to the small Bavarian parlour of its dare-devil former owner, from historical curiosities to revolving exhibitions.
