Traditions & Customs

Lake Tegernsee is rich in tradition. When the House of Wittelsbach began its rule in the 18th century, a vibrant culture came to the valley. Many artists, musicians and writers settled here and were inspired by the beauty of the landscape.

They still are today. It’s therefore hardly surprising that the region has long been home to many exceptionally high-quality cultural events, including the renowned International Music Festival Kreuth, the International Mountain Film Festival and an art exhibition that’s now in its 70th year.

We also have many events that celebrate local customs and traditions, among them the oldest horseback procession of St. Leonhard (“Leonhardifahrt”) and the Rosstag Horse Festival in Rottach-Egern.

Culture and traditions play a big part in the life around Lake Tegernsee. Come and enjoy the variety.
