Experience

Whether you’re on the mountain or the water, cherish the moment.

The lake can be light blue, emerald green or brilliant turquoise, as smooth as glass or gently rippled. Idyllic alpine pastures and mountains – snow-covered, sunlit, or both – surround it. Swimmers, sailors and surfers enjoy the refreshing water and, with the backdrop of the mountains, the lake is a paradise for skiers, hikers and mountain lovers. Freedom, peace and a friendly welcome await you here. Come to the TEGERNSEE holiday region and discover for yourself why Lake Tegernsee is the lake to love.

Things to do at lake Tegernsee

Take a boat trip with the "Seenschifffahrt Tegernsee" and enjoy the picturesque Bavarian landscape from a new perspective. Or rent a boat and explore the lake on your own.

Go for a hike and visit a mountain hut for a classic Bavarian snack (“Brotzeit”) and enjoy the great view over the alps.

Enjoy the authentic food in the beer gardens and restaurants around the lake.

Visit a traditional event, like the famous lake festivals in the summer months, the oldest horseback procession of St. Leonhard, the Rosstag Horse Festival in Rottach-Egern in autumn or the Christmas-Markets in winter.

Challenge your luck having a night out in the biggest casino of Bavaria.

Take a rejuvenating bath in Germanys most powerful iodine sulfur springs in Bad Wiessee

And not to forget, go swimming in the crystal clear water of lake Tegernsee.

Things to see

The view over the Bavarian Alps from the top of the Wallberg, the highest mountain at the lake - just take the gondola.

The traditional restaurant Bräustüberl and the iconic Tegernsee monastery alongside the lake, an absolute must-see visiting this area.

Have a stroll at the Seestraße – a pretty street alongside the lake and fashion mile with a wide range of shops and restaurants in the heart of Rottach-Egern.

Visit the Olaf Gulbranson Museums and enjoy the art of this extraordinary artist and his entertaining caricatures.

Explore pure nature at the “Sutten” area and experience one of the most typical Bavarian landscapes you normally just only know from postcards – if you are lucky, you might even see a golden eagle or chamois.

Things to taste

Have some handmade cheese from the “Naturkäserei Tegernseer Land”. You can also go on a guided tour through the cheese diary including a cheese tasting.

An absolute must-do during a stay at lake Tegernsee, is having a big glass of fresh taped Tegernseer beer.

If you are a fish lover, try some fresh caught samlet (“Saibling”) at the ducal fisheries in Kreuth.

When visiting at the end of October, make sure to try a typical local dinner - duck with red cabbage and dumplings. Around the regional holiday "Kirchweih” this is a common dish und absolutely delicious.

Ever wanted to dine in a Michelin-Star restaurant? Forget about Jamie Oliver. At lake Tegernsee, you can visit 3-star chef Christian Jürgens at the restaurant “Überfahrt” or you go for an excellent meal at “Dichterstub’n” the home of star-chef Thomas Kellermann.
